The Craftsmanship
In the heart of Laguiole village, the Forge de Laguiole® manufactory stands as a living testament to time-honored craftsmanship. Here, over a hundred artisans work tirelessly each day, ensuring the legacy of cutlery making is passed down through generations.
Surrounded by the unique energy of Laguiole, the village itself serves as a constant source of inspiration for the Master Knifemaker. Each Forge de Laguiole® knife is handmade, following a tradition that dates back to 1828.
Every authentic Forge de Laguiole® knife is stamped with the brand's logo, and each one bears the personal mark of the Master Knifemaker who crafted it. The knives embody the strength and beauty of the stunning environment that surrounds them, reflecting unparalleled quality and craftsmanship.

The Stainless Steel
Forge de Laguiole uses high-quality French T12 and T14 steel, which is forged at 1000°C in their manufactory in Laguiole, France. This corrosion-resistant martensite steel, with a high percentage of chromium and carbon, offers a perfect balance of cutting performance, durability, and resistance to oxidation, while ensuring easy sharpening and polishing.

The Forge
All metal parts for Forge de Laguiole knives are crafted in the village of Laguiole, France. The steel is carefully forged under 300 tonnes of pressure, ensuring excellent cutting quality and longevity, with bolsters (mitres) made from brass or steel for added durability and protection during use.

The Handles
The handles of Forge de Laguiole knives are crafted from premium materials such as wood, horn, bone, or even mammoth molar, each individually selected and sculpted by skilled Master Knifemakers. Starting from raw materials, the handles are cut, sawed, and precision-machined using advanced numerical controls to ensure perfect symmetry and fit. The final shaping is meticulously completed by hand, guaranteeing both accuracy and exceptional quality in every piece.

The Assembly
At Forge de Laguiole, each knife is meticulously crafted from start to finish by a single Master Knifemaker. The process includes preparing, sculpting, and assembling each part by hand, with intricate techniques like guilloching the spring and fine-tuning the overall shape. Every knife is a unique masterpiece, shaped with precision and expertise to ensure exceptional quality.

The Polishing
Each Forge de Laguiole knife is carefully polished by hand using cotton or linen cloths and polishing paste to enhance its shine. The process brings out the beauty of the handle materials and refines the metal parts, with two available finishes: shiny or satin. The polisher begins with the blade before moving on to the handle for a flawless finish.

The Sharpening
The expertise of our Master Knifemaker, combined with the quality of the steel, ensures that each Forge de Laguiole knife delivers an exceptional cutting edge and long-lasting durability. The grinding process refines the blade into a V-shape, maintaining thickness for strength while enhancing cutting performance. Using diamond grinding wheels, this precise operation guarantees the quality and sharpness of every blade.

Quality control check
Before leaving the workshop, each knife is individually examined to ensure that it meets Forge De Laguiole's strict quality criteria. Their expert inspectors meticulously inspect every detail, checking for any defects or imperfections. If a knife does not meet the high standards, it is immediately returned to the workshops for repair, ensuring that only the finest knives make their way to our customers.
