Creations by Stéphane Rambaud

Stéphane Rambaud, born in Lyon and now based in Aveyron, is a true master of the art of Laguiole knife-making. After earning the gold medal for Best Apprentice at the Nogent School of Cutlery in 1987, he joined Forge de Laguiole before turning twenty years old, working alongside the company’s oldest master knife-smiths. Over the years, he has refined his craft, creating knives that are as much works of art as they are tools.

Rambaud is known for his exceptional use of materials, often incorporating rare and luxurious elements into his designs. His handles feature a range of materials including walnut root, bone, coral, and even mammoth molars. He also uses unique textures like scorpion tail, honeycomb patterns, and pearled shells, adding depth and character to each piece. The intricate designs extend to the details of the knife, with engraved springs featuring abstract geometrical forms or hammered flint finishes, and beautifully chiselled flies shaped into bees, animal heads, or natural motifs like oak leaves and flowers.

In 2006, his "Esquisse – Forge de Laguiole" knife in damascus steel won 1st prize at the IWA show in Nuremberg, solidifying his reputation in the world of fine cutlery. For over two decades, Rambaud has been creating bespoke, one-of-a-kind knives, each hand-made to perfection and combining traditional craftsmanship with innovative design.

"Thanks to Forge de Laguiole, I have the tremendous privilege to be able to express myself- while following in the footsteps of our great elders, those who contributed to our Laguiole cutlery heritage by creating unique objects using exceptional materials”
Stéphane Rambaud

Depending on the complexity of the design, manufacturing times can often exceed 100 hours, as Stéphane pays meticulous attention to every detail, ensuring that the final result is flawless. From the careful selection of materials to the intricate engraving, each step is performed with the utmost skill and dedication.
