True Laguiole, Made in Laguiole

A smith forges the blade from French steel sourced from Aciéries de Bonpertuis. Specialists prepare materials — wood and horn cut and prepared in-house; bolsters and fittings made on site. All within the manufactory designed by Philippe Starck.

From assembly onward, a single cutler takes over: pins set, spring aligned, spine and bee finished (on select models), edge honed, polish raised by hand. One maker guides the knife from first pin to final shine.

All in the village of Laguiole. The pace is deliberate; a knife leaves only when balance, feel, and finish agree. True Laguiole — built end to end under one roof.

Indication Géographique

First IG-Certified Couteau de Laguiole

Forge de Laguiole presents the first model authorised to bear the Indication Géographique (IG) “Couteau de Laguiole.” A similar national protection that guards Champagne now safeguards this knife.

The IG is earned: made within the Laguiole area, to state-defined specifications, in respect of ancestral savoir-faire. Each model is examined; this is the first approved.

This edition embodies the label: 5,000-year-old fossilised oak from the Rhine, a hot-forged French-steel blade, and symbols of origin - the ancient diamond and the chiselled Saint Andrew’s cross. For collectors, the IG restores certainty: authentic Laguiole, made in its birthplace.

I got this for my fathers 70th birthday, and had it engraved with his initials. although it took approximately 6 weeks for the engraved one (1 week without) it was definitely worth it, and my dad loved it!
