What the options are, how they differ and which one is right for your gift or collection
Personalising a Forge de Laguiole piece turns a beautiful object into your own.
We offer two professional engraving options across most Forge de Laguiole products:
Laser Surface Engraving and Laser Deep Engraving.
Both offer a premium finish, but each creates a different style of personalisation.
Below is a clear breakdown so you can choose the one that fits your product, your message and your budget.
1. Laser Surface Engraving
A clean, permanent engraving ideal for names, initials, short messages and most logos.
Surface engraving removes a very thin layer of metal.
It leaves a crisp, permanent mark that won’t rub or fade during normal use.
However — and this is important — it may lighten or be polished out if the piece is subjected to heavy, repeated polishing over time. For everyday use, it holds beautifully, but it is not designed for aggressive refinishing.
Why people choose surface engraving
- Perfect for names, dates and personal messages
- Clean, precise and elegant
- Works on most Forge de Laguiole products
- Free on all retail orders
- Cost-efficient for bulk and corporate gifting
This is the option we recommend for:
weddings, corporate gifts, anniversaries, graduations, home chefs, collectors and anyone wanting a subtle, timeless personalisation.

2. Laser Deep Engraving
A bold, textured engraving with real depth and a sculpted, tactile finish.
Laser deep engraving removes around 0.5mm of material, creating a recessed mark you can see and feel.
It is striking, confident and impossible to remove.
Why people choose deep engraving
- Adds a strong visual impact
- Creates a 3D textured finish
- Extremely durable — built into the metal, not on top of it
- Available on most products (with limitations below)
Note: Deep engraving cannot be done on knife blades, as it affects blade stability.
We are happy to advise the best placement on the handle or spine depending on your model.
Pricing
Deep engraving is optional and adds $45, with tiered discounts available for bulk or wholesale orders.

Each Collection Range folding knife also offers the option of engraving, either delicately integrated into the guilloche on the spring or engraved on its inside.

Signature Series Engraving (Important)
Some pieces in the Signature Line have placement restrictions due to licensing agreements.
If you would like engraving on a Signature Line product, please contact us first.
We will confirm the available placements before you order.
All engraving is done in the Forge de Laguiole Workshop in France
Every engraving — whether surface or deep — is carried out at the Forge de Laguiole factory in France.
Your piece is engraved at the same workshop where it was originally crafted.
What this means for lead times
Orders that include engraving will follow the factory’s production schedule.
Lead times are typically 2–6 weeks.
This ensures your engraving is done correctly, consistently, and to the same standard as the knife or tool itself.
Fonts, Logos, Artwork — Almost Anything Is Possible
Both engraving methods function like a precision printer.
Any font, monogram, symbol or vector logo can be engraved with accuracy.
We can offer a sample of the actual engraving (picture only) before production for all bulk orders.
Not Sure About Placement?
Placement varies by product — cutlery, corkscrews, folding knives, golf knives all have different ideal engraving zones.
If you are unsure, please reach out.
We will recommend the placements that look clean, balanced and long-lasting.
Final Thoughts
Engraving transforms a Forge de Laguiole piece into something personal — a memory you can hold.
Whether you prefer the subtlety of surface engraving or the presence of deep engraving, both options preserve the integrity and craftsmanship of the original piece.
