For those who demand high-tech performance, Compressed Fabric is the ultimate modern solution. Unlike cold plastics or metals, this material offers a unique tactile experience, it feels smooth in the hand, yet it is impervious to water, heat and warping. It is the perfect marriage of textile beauty and industrial strength.
Visually, the handle reveals its structure in a subtle, beautiful way. When shaped and polished, the layers of fabric create a wood-grain-like pattern (often called "faux grain") that flows with the contours of the handle. Because the colour is impregnated all the way through the material, it will never fade, peel, or scratch off.
How is it made? This material is created through a process of extreme pressure and heat. Sheets of high-quality cotton or linen fabric are soaked in a thermosetting resin, stacked layer by layer and then compressed under thousands of pounds of pressure. The result is a solid, dense block that fuses the durability of rock with the texture of woven cloth. This process allows for incredible customisation, we offer this material in a spectrum of 10 different colours, ranging from vibrant reds and blues to classic earth tones.
Where else is it used? Originally designed for the electrical industry, this material is legendary for its insulating properties. It is frequently used in the aerospace industry for structural components, and in heavy-duty safety equipment where failure is not an option.
Did you know? While it makes for a beautiful knife handle today, this material has a serious pedigree. Because it is incredibly heat-resistant and durable, early versions of compressed fabric laminates were actually used to construct the heat shields for intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) to protect them upon re-entry into the Earth's atmosphere.
