If you are choosing a handle for a corkscrew, there is no material more symbolically perfect than the vine itself. This handle is crafted from the actual stock of the grape vine, the very "legs" that supported the grapes used to make the wine you are about to enjoy. It is the ultimate conversation piece, closing the circle between the vineyard and the glass.

Visually, vine wood is fascinatingly chaotic. Because grape vines do not grow straight but rather twist and turn toward the sun, the wood grain is gnarled, knotted and full of character. To make this naturally porous and brittle material suitable for a lifetime of use, it is "stabilised." This process involves impregnating the wood with a special resin under high pressure, which hardens the timber, protects it from humidity, and allows it to take a beautiful, durable polish without losing its natural appearance.

Where can it be found? This wood is sourced directly from French vineyards. These stocks are typically harvested from old vines that have reached the end of their productive life, allowing you to hold a piece of French winemaking history in your hand.

Special Note: This material is available exclusively for corkscrews.

Did you know? Vines are often at their best just before they are retired. "Old Vines"  produce fewer grapes, but the fruit they do yield is incredibly concentrated and flavourful. By turning these retired stocks into handles, we give these hardworking plants a second life, opening the very bottles they helped create.
